Personal Statement
Welcome to our mental health platform, a space dedicated to supporting and uplifting the South Asian community.

I’m Sandip Kaur, one of the founders of Sakoon Mind. My self-development journey began about five years ago. At that time, I was lost in family life and didn’t know who I was or what I enjoyed. My mental and physical health were poor, and I felt deeply unhappy and lacking in self-confidence.

One beautiful sunny day, sitting in my conservatory, I began journaling. This was the start of my self-care journey. Writing about my feelings and investing time in self-improvement helped me discover what made me feel happier and more peaceful. I started meditating, going for nature walks, and enjoying moments of calm.

I also began attending coffee mornings with a friend every Friday. We called these sessions “Coffee Therapy,” where we shared stories and supported each other with tips and techniques for self-care. This connection and mutual support were incredibly beneficial.

Reading books about the mind and thought patterns further boosted my self-growth and confidence. During this time, a close family member struggled with severe mental health issues, even contemplating suicide. With the support of counselling Hellen who helped me unlock the confidence and resilience of a warrior. A charity dear to me, Chris’s House, we navigated this difficult period. I learned that it’s okay not to be okay and the importance of seeking help.
With support from like-minded individuals and lots of “Coffee Therapy” sessions, I gained clarity and confidence. I completed a mental health and healing modality course, something I never thought I could do before.

Realizing the need for mental health support in the South Asian community, my friends and I decided to start Sakoon Mind (Peaceful Mind). Our goal is to help those who feel sad, unhappy, or stuck, especially in a culture that often links mental health issues to weakness.
